In what was considered a tough battle of the minds on the Bible and the heritage of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the team from Central Jamaica Conference (CJC) waltzed away with the annual Jamaica Union Conference (JAMU) 2024 Heritage Quiz. The final was held on Sabbath, October 26, 2024, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Port Maria, St. Mary.

The Andrea Brown-Henry-coached CJC won with 56 points, followed by the West Jamaica Conference with 43 and the North Jamaica Conference with 40. They were followed by East and North East Jamaica Conferences, respectively.

“The win means everything to us,” exclaimed team captain Jocelyn Brown-Kerr. “It proved that our hard work, dedication, and study have paid off, but above everything, studying to win was not the ultimate goal. It is to make the book knowledge become heart knowledge and lifestyle changes, which is the objective of the team and the young persons we train. We will continue studying hard for all the competitions and prepare for the Master’s coming.”

The quiz, which started in 2015, has as its objectives:

  1. Encourage members to know the doctrines of the Seventh-day Church and the history of Seventh-day Adventism in Jamaica.
  2. Create awareness of important individuals, events, and institutions that contribute to the growth and development of our church in Jamaica.
  3. Inspire members to become passionate and excited about our message, resulting in a renewed commitment to its vision and mission.
  4. Provide personal and spiritual benefits to participants and members
  5. Affirm the fields and participants in the programme

“Heritage Quiz 2024 has been a great success,” said Pastor Joseph Smith, Ministerial Secretary, JAMU, responsible for the quiz. While there is still more to be achieved, our conferences have now embraced the objectives of using the Quiz to teach our doctrines and perpetuate our heritage!”

“I thank all the Conferences for their participation. While the emphasis is not on winning or losing, we certainly appreciate your commitment to this programme. Thanks also to Jamaica Union and North East Jamaica Conference for the planning and execution of this significant event,” Smith added
