Adventists to serve in their communities during Global Youth Day

In less than two days, young people across Seventh-day Adventist congregations around the world will unite in carrying out acts of kindness and sharing hope in their communities on Sabbath, March 18, 2017.

The annual special day coined as Global Youth Day, is sponsored by the General Conference’s youth ministries department and motivates young people to get out of their comfort zones to “Be the Sermon” as they show the love of Jesus in their communities.

This year, organizers have encouraged young people to take part in donating blood through blood drive plans detailed at gcyouthministries.org

Pastor Al Powell, youth ministries director for the church in Inter-America, who oversees over 1.5 million young people across the 21,000 churches and congregations in the Inter-American Division (IAD), says he is looking forward to witnessing how the Adventist youth are on fire to connect and care for their communities.

“There are so many ways we can contribute to society and one important need is to donate blood,” said Powell. “Blood for us symbolizes something that is more important not just life but as we believe in Christ, we believe that He is the one that has given His blood for us, so we can share Christ.”

Already, Powell says that donating blood during Global Youth Day is a great reminder for young people to be available to give blood throughout the year.

Youth in Inter-America will also distribute meals and clothing, visit hospitals and nursing homes, plant trees and more, said Powell.

Global Youth Day activities around the world will be featured during a 24-hour live transmission on the Hope Channel and carried on globalyouthday.org

The Inter-American Division will host one and a half hours of the live transmission from the North Caribbean University campus in Mandeville, Jamaica, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Miami Time.

The IAD live program will be carried in English and will feature activities from the 24 unions or church regions comprising the IAD.
