Governor General Sir. Patrick Allen, Minister of Health Dr. Christopher Tufton, Member of Parliament Julian Robinson and Director for the Centre for Disability Studies, Senator, Dr. Floyd Morris, led the hundreds of runners, walkers and wheelchair participants at the 7th staging of the Good Samaritan 5K Health Run/Walk on Sunday, August 26, 2018, in Kingston.
The annual race which aims to encourage Jamaicans to live healthy, fulfilling lives with exercise, and care for the most vulnerable in our communities, is organized by friends of the Good Samaritan Inn and the Andrews Memorial Seventh-day Adventist Church. It provides support for the Good Samaritan Inn – a drop-in centre for the homeless located near Heroes Circle – as well as other charities. Beneficiaries for the 2018 run include the Jamaica Society for the Blind and the Glenhope Place of Safety.
With the addition of electronic timing and an improved registration process provided through partnership with race veterans Alan Beckford and OnDiRun, the event saw several veteran road racers sprinting to the finish. A new champion was crowned for 2018 with Oshane Archibald leading in a time of 15:56, shaving a full 5 seconds off last year’s winning time. Archibald was followed by 2017 winner Kemar
Leslie with Kosiani Dunkley taking third place in times of 16:08 and 16:32 respectively. The women were led by Arieta Martin in 21:21 with Alison Sutherland in 23:49 and Erica Simon in 24:32 for second and third place respectively.
