Gabrielle Davis, one of two representatives of the Central Jamaica Conference (CJC), won the 2024 Jamaica Union Conference (JAMU) Bible Connection finals held at the Seventh-day Adventist Conference Centre in Mount Salem, St. James, on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

Davis won with 685 points, ahead of Threvena Chin, second from North East Jamaica, and Kaldero Carter, third from CJC, with 675 points each. They were separated by time, with Chin accumulating her points in less time.

“It feels great to be the winner of the JAMU Bible Connection,” said Davis. “I have experienced numerous challenges balancing studying with work and school. This week, particularly, has been very tense because of my academic examination and work. Also, it takes a lot of dedication, practice, and hard work, but it was worth it in the end.”

Davis, who has been an entrepreneur since 2021 selling male clothing, is encouraging other youth to get involved in Bible Connection at least once in their lifetime. “It’s a rewarding experience,” she quipped.

All participants received a 10” Samsung Galaxy tablet. The top three received cash awards of $50,000 for first place, $30,000 for second place, and $20,000 for third place.

Davis will represent the Jamaica Union Conference at the Inter-American Division Finals in San Salvador, El Salvador, on November 16, 2024.

“It is truly fulfilling to note that all five conferences participated in the Bible Connection this year,” said Pastor Dane Fletcher, Youth Ministries Director of JAMU. “We have seen that the Bible Connection has deepened the faith of all participants as they continue to testify of the personal benefits, increased wisdom, and a clearer vision of God’s plan for their lives. Only eternity will show the true benefits of a strengthened connection with Jesus through studying His Word!”

The Bible Connection was executed in a non-competitive context, where participants answered questions on their tablets.

“Inasmuch as there was a delay because of technical challenges, we are grateful that we were able to execute the quiz successfully, “Fletcher added.

Eight people participated in the finals, two each from the West, North, and Central Jamaica Conferences and one each from the East and North East Jamaica Conferences.

Interestingly, Kaldero Carter of CJC, who finished third, was last year’s winner, which means that CJC has taken two of the top three spots this year.

“It’s a really good feeling. I am happy for both persons,” said Pastor Dwayne Scott, Youth Ministries Director of CJC. “They put a lot of hard work and dedication into preparation over the past few months. Our process is unique; we had Bible quizzes from the church to the Federation, then to the Conference level. The finalists for the quiz are introduced to the app, and that’s how we select our two participants.”  “The entire Conference is proud of both winners,” Scott added.
