NCU, Mandeville, Jamaica - Chairman of the Sagicor Group, Richard Byles and Professor Alvin Wint are two of three to be conferred with honorary degrees during Northern Caribbean University’s (NCU’s) graduation ceremonies to be held on Sunday August 12. They will both be conferred with honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees.
Before his appointment as Chairman, Mr Byles served the Sagicor Group as President and CEO. Under his leadership, the Group has grown and evolved through a series of acquisitions and has significantly increased profits.

Having held other leadership roles prior to his tenure at the Sagicor Group, Mr Byles has played an integral role in the development of the companies he has served.
Professor Wint is Emeritus Professor of International Business at the University of the West Indies (UWI). In 1993, he became the youngest West Indian ever appointed Professor at UWI and subsequently served the university in varying capacities. He currently serves numerous boards, national committees and sub-committees.
Professor Wint has been awarded the Jamaican Order of Distinction - Commander Class, along with numerous academic and professional awards.
Mr Byles and Dr Wint will be honoured by NCU in recognition of their contribution to nation building in their respective fields.

Also, being honoured is Vice President for the Inter-American Division of Seventh-day Adventists, Pastor Leon Wellington. He will be conferred with the honorary Doctor of Divinity degree.
Pastor Wellington who is the longest serving Vice President of the Inter-American Division, founded the Educational Foundation for Children’s Care Inc., operators of the Alta Vista Children’s Village in Clarendon that provides a home for abandoned, abused, neglected and homeless children in Jamaica. In recognition of his service to religion, Pastor Wellington received the national honour of Commander of the Order of Distinction, on October 21, 2002.

The graduation ceremonies are part of a weekend of activities which will run from August 11 to 13, under the theme Mission Possible: Moving Forward.
