Members of the Orange District of Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Churches, in St James, came out in large numbers recently for a community project, which saw them doing beautification and repair works on the Adelphi Police Station.
The church members, who came from eight different congregations, spent the day weeding the station yard, painting and doing general repair works to the main station building and other surrounding structures. The project form a part of the activities for the 125th anniversary celebrations of the SDA church in Jamaica.
Trevor Reid, pastor of the Orange District of SDA Churches, said that, his district of congregations, which comprise Orange, Adelphi, Chatham, Dumfries, Canaan, Somerton, Little Ease and Irwin Heights, would also be partnering with the Adelphi police for better community relations and ministerial outreach.
“Our task is just to help them have a more workable situation so they can feel a little more comfortable, … so they can serve us better. Instead of working on the station themselves, they will have more time to work with the citizenry,” said Pastor Reid. “We are also going to adopt this station as our own. All eight congregations are involved as we are today.”
