The Administration of Northern Caribbean University (NCU) is saddened to announce the sudden passing of Dr Newton Cleghorne, Vice President, Student Services. He died today, September 3, 2021. Dr Cleghorne was appointed Dean for the School of Religion and Theology on August 1, 2006, and was later appointed Vice President for Student Services on September 1, 2016.  He also served as Site Coordinator for the Inter-American Adventist Theological Seminary (IATS) at NCU.  Prior to joining NCU, Dr Cleghorne served as youth ministries director for the Northeastern Conference of SDA and Church Pastor in the United States of America and Jamaica. According to NCU President Dr Lincoln Edwards, Dr Cleghorne served as the spiritual father of the University family and the wider community. His over forty years of outstanding service to the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist church, both locally and internationally, has resulted in hundreds of persons developing a fulfilling and saving relationship with Jesus Christ. "The inspiration he has brought to many will remain a source of comfort to them in these difficult times. The entire University family and the larger community of believers mourn his passing, but are comforted by the strong faith he had in the resurrection and a future life with his Saviour," noted Dr Edwards. "His dearly beloved wife, Dr Wayne Ireland Cleghorne, was there at the time of his passing and we solicit your prayers for her and the extended family during this time of grief and loss," Dr Edwards added. In his tribute, Pastor Everett Brown, Chairman of the NCU Board of Governors and President of Jamaica Union (JAMU) of Seventh-day Adventists, said that Dr Cleghorne has given sterling contribution to the growth and development of NCU, specifically in the School of Religion and Theology and the JAMU…a legacy that will last for decades to come; and he will be sadly missed.” “We commend his wife and family to the care and comfort of the great comforter, Jesus Christ," said Pastor Brown. Pastor Brown along with the NCU Administration and JAMU, express condolences to the extended Seventh-day Adventist family locally and internationally.
